Yaoundé, 27 August 2020

Avocats Sans Frontières France and its partners, Avocats Sans Frontières Cameroun, the Cameroonian Network of Human Rights Organisations (RECODH) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, are pleased to announce the launch of the RECAJUD project, which aims to strengthen the capacities of Cameroonian civil society to provide access to justice for people in detention.

RECODH will implement for a period of 19 months, in partnership with ASF France and ASF Cameroon, the RECAJUD project in the cities of Yaoundé, Douala, Limbé, Bafoussam and Bamenda.

The RECAJUD project aims to strengthen the capacities of the members of the judicial chain in the protection and care of persons deprived of their liberty, in particular persons in vulnerable situations, and to promote the application of alternative sentences.

It is divided into two main areas of intervention:

1- Promoting the rights of detainees and dealing with the most emblematic cases (no detention order, length of pre-trial detention expired, discriminated persons, etc.)

2- Advocacy for the effective exercise of alternative sentences for the cases in question.

A synergy of action will be established during implementation with the Cameroon Bar Association and the National Commission on Human Rights and Freedoms (NCHRF).

The RECAJUD project is supported by a grant from the French government through the Crisis and Support Centre (CDCS) of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (IMEAE).
