Today, Thursday 25 November 2021, is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Gender-based violence (GBV) affects millions of women around the world. It is a scourge that knows no borders. The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on women's rights around the world. Together we can #OrangeTheWorld and make a difference in the lives of women and girls. Together we can achieve positive change for women and girls around the world.

Because every society has a duty to protect the rights of women and girls, ASF France is actively engaged in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV) and the impunity of its perpetrators.

In Cambodia, laws protecting the fundamental rights of women and girls are not applied in practice and many people find themselves in situations of physical, sexual and marital violence, often within the family.
In Mali, 35% of women have been victims of sexual violence. Faced with the increase in violence against women, the penal response is weak. Very few perpetrators are prosecuted. Women must have sufficient confidence in the justice system to lodge a complaint.

In Guinea, the prevalence of female genital mutilation (FGM) is the highest in the West African region, at 97%. Numerous national strategies have been put in place by the government, as well as massive awareness campaigns, without any effect on a potential decrease in the prevalence of FGM.

ASF France is involved in these three countries in projects to combat GBV, with the aim of showing ever greater solidarity with the victims of gender-related issues.
