LAUNCH OF THE IMPACT PROJECT

On 6 April, the launch ceremony of the IMPACT project (Involvement of Digital Media in the Active Prevention of Conflicts and Tensions) was held in Conakry. The project is financed by the European Union and implemented in Guinea and Ivory Coast by a consortium led by ASF France, in partnership with a French structure, Danaïdes, a pan-African platform, AfricTivistes, and two national associations : Association des Blogueurs de Guinée (ABLOGUI), and the Réseau des Professionnels de la Presse en Ligne de Côte d'Ivoire (REPPRELCI). Another launch ceremony will take place in Abidjan on 12 April.

The project aims to improve the capacity of the media and journalists to collect, verify and disseminate credible and complete information in order to meet people's right to information and thus maintain social peace in democratic societies that respect human rights. It is financed by the European Union under its Instrument for Stability and Peace for a total amount of nearly 10 billion Guinean francs (€1 million; XOF 655 950 000).

The activities implemented will have the following objectives:

1. To analyse the role of the media in the coverage of conflicts and to promote the creation of synergies to support exchange and experience
2. Strengthen the capacity of the media by equipping them with tools to maximise their potential
3. Mobilise media and civil society actors against hate speech and in favour of dialogue processes
