8 March 2024 is an opportunity to draw attention to the violence suffered every day by millions of women around the world and to renew our efforts to reverse this trend.
⚖️ Through legal assistance, capacity building and advocacy, Avocats Sans Frontières France is committed to ensuring that the rights of the most vulnerable - and in particular women and girls - are respected and firmly denounces any type of violence against them.
📌 Today, we would like to take a particular look at the situation of women and girls in Guinea, where Avocats Sans Frontières France has been working since 2021. Their condition remains, in fact, marked by limited access to social services and production resources, restricted participation in decision-making processes at all levels and little recognition of their rights.
📣 According to the report by the Club des Jeunes Filles Leaders de Guinée (CJFLG) in 2023, nearly one girl in two is married off at an early age or forced into marriage before the age of 18, more than 95% of women aged between 15 and 49 are victims of female circumcision, and 80% are subject to domestic violence.
👉🏼 Faced with these alarming facts, ASFFrance is continuing its action in Guinea with the launch of the "Fight against impunity for perpetrators of gender-based violence (GBV) in order to strengthen gender equality in Guinea" (LIBRE) project in March 2024. In partnership with the CJFLG and the Centre de Promotion et de Protection des Droits de l'Homme (CPDH), this European Union-funded project aims to actively contribute to behavioural change to better address GBV in Guinea. In particular, this will involve strengthening the legal and political system and providing holistic care for victims in order to help combat impunity and promote fair and accessible defence for all.
💬 Oumou Khaïry Diallo, Executive Director of the CJFLG, tells us about her work to combat violence against women and girls: "Victim support is one of the priorities of our mandate, so the LIBRE project reinforces our actions in terms of victim support, particularly access to justice for people in vulnerable situations".
