✌Two Major Victories for Justice in One Week! ASF France Secures Release of Two Detainees Held Arbitrarily for Over 4 and 6 Years

⚖️ In a major step forward for human rights, ASF France has secured the release of two men who had been held without trial for over 6 years and over 4 years, respectively, at Kaduna Correctional Centre in Nigeria.

🚨On July 8, 2025, the High Court ordered the release of 26-year-old M.U., following a fundamental rights application filed by ASF France. Arrested in 2019 at just 20 years old, M.U. spent more than six years in pretrial detention, facing charges punishable by death. His release marks the end of a long ordeal and the beginning of a new life with his family.

🚨Just six days later, on July 14, 2025, the court again ruled in favour of Y.U., who had been unlawfully detained for over four years. The judge condemned his arrest and prolonged detention as a gross violation of his fundamental rights and ordered his immediate release.

🤝 These landmark rulings were made possible through the ProJUST project – Promoting Access to Justice for Persons Facing the Death Penalty and Arbitrary Detention – funded by the Australian High Commission’s Direct Aid Program (DAP).

📣 They highlight the critical importance of legal assistance for those forgotten behind bars.
